Inefficient energy consumption is a hallmark of post-viral syndromes during cardiopulmonary exercise

This presentation compares how the body produces energy during exercise in people with Long COVID, ME/CFS, and Gulf War Illness. The study demonstrates that all three conditions show altered energy metabolism, with reduced fat oxidation and increased reliance on carbohydrates, providing new insights into the biological mechanisms that may underlie chronic fatigue and exercise intolerance across post-infectious illnesses.
